TWO PERFORMANCES: Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 2:00 and 7:30 PM, at WESTMONT HILLTOP HIGH SCHOOL!
Log Art Theatre Academy's popular musical theatre camp returns! Join us for a week of all things musical theatre in 2024 to produce NEWSIES JR at Westmont Hilltop High School!
The Newsies Jr. production will include a free Log Art Theatre Academy Performance Workshop with the show’s producer, Angela R. Godin, that focuses on basic theatre concepts, tools and techniques to enhance characterization, character dissection and back story creation, improvisational skills, monologue and line delivery development, and the use of historic and economic status to allow campers to transform themselves. It will engage all levels of proficiency, while educating the participants on the history of the current show in production.
ABOUT NEWSIES JR:
Disney's Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.
Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.
Tickets for Newsies Jr. are available for $8 for Arts Center members and $10 for non-members. Online ticket purchases are no longer available! Online ticket buyers can check in at the door with the name on the purchase order.
TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!! $10 FOR NON-MEMBERS AND $8 FOR CAC MEMBERS. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.
Teens will learn about mosaics and create their own custom 12x12 inch mosaic piece. They will start by drawing out a concept, and then learn how to cut, grind, nip, and apply tile, and finish off by learning how to grout their piece. All ideas and inspiration are welcome. Please bring a few reference photos with ideas if you’d like, and the instructor can help narrow it down in the first session!
